The discovery: a tiny door in a flowerpot

In a moonlit garden, a child found a tiny door in a flowerpot. Nearby sat a mouse carrying a folded handkerchief. “Shall we look together?” whispered the child. Earlier that day, the child had tried something new, just one small step at a time.

Make it yours

  1. What colour is the little discovery? Can you point to where it might be?
  2. What small new thing could the child try next, with a friend nearby?
  3. What does their new friend say? Try a little voice together.

A gentle ending

Let the child choose whether to take one more little step or leave it for tomorrow. Finish beside the sleeping flowers, with a quiet sound from the beginning of your story returning as everyone settles.

Read together

Offer two choices if a question feels too big. A word, a sound or a gesture can be their part of the story.

Change a choice or press the button again for another beginning. You can use your child’s name as you read aloud. Your choices are not saved by this tool.

How to make it your own

  1. Read the opening aloud. Add a name out loud if you like.
  2. Use one of the questions when you need the next sentence. Skip any that do not fit.
  3. Borrow the ending idea, or let your child choose where everyone goes next.

The age choices change the language and questions; they are suggestions, not a measure of ability. You can pick any band that suits your family.

Can I use it without a screen?

Yes. Copy or print the starter, then put the screen away. You can also use this ready-to-tell idea: a mouse finds a tiny folded blanket beside a garden gate. Who left it there, who might need it, and where could they make a cosy resting place?

What gets saved?

Your selections and starter stay in this page’s memory and reset on reload. Copying puts the text on your clipboard; printing uses your device’s print dialog. The tool sends no selections or story text to analytics.
